Christmas on Oahu
|
|
This Christmas finds us in Honolulu where the weather has been exceptional. Even without snow Christmas is still in the air for everyone here. This statue of King Kamehameha I stands in front of the Hawai'i State Supreme Court building, across the street from the Iolani Palace. King Kamehameha I (1782-1819) formally established the Kingdom of Hawai'i in 1810.
Honolulu City Hall is most decidedly the centre point for elaborate Christmas displays. As you can see, Santa is hanging loose Hawai'ian style. Recently Mrs. Claus has benefitted from a Hawai'ian makeover by having a floral print pattern added to her muumuu and a lovely kukui nut lei hung around her neck.
On the grounds surrounding City Hall numerous large displays have been set up as well as rides and activities for kids.
If this snow family was made of real snow, in this climate they'd be a large puddle in very short order.
Merry Christmas in Hawai'ian is Mele Kalikimaka. Happy New Year is Hau'oli Makahiki Hou.
No trip to Hawai'i would be complete without sending off a postcard to our friends and acquaintances. Here's yours.
