Western Canada Postal History. FORT ASSINABOINE/MONT. FEB 18 1882 CDS on cover with USA 3c. Washington type of #A46 addressed to PETERBORO/ONT. MR 2/82 CDS receiver on reverse. Note this cover is 4 months earlier than the similar cover written up in 'The Northerner" #56 August 2005 which describes that mail from southwestern Assiniboia or southern Alberta to eastern Canada was routed through Montana during 1882. On May 8, 1882, the district of Assiniboia was established for postal purposes so this cover pre-dates the existence of Assiniboia district. Slightly cut down at left, edge tears, some foxing.
